The purpose of the 7th & 8th grade program is to provide a fun and competitive environment for girls to continue to improve on the fundamentals of the game.
Girls in 7th & 8th grade participate in the West Metro recreational league. The league currently consists of teams from Chaska/Chanhassen, Minnetonka, Edina, and Wayzata.
When and Where Do The Kids Practice/Play?
7th & 8th grade will practice one night a week (tentatively Thursday nights - based on gym availability) at one of the elementary schools in Eden Prairie starting in early November. Practices will rotate between either a 6:00 or 7:15 pm start time and will last 75 minutes. Games for the West Metro league are played on Saturday in Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Wayzata, Chaska/Chanhassen and/or Edina. Game times fall between 8:30 am - 5:30 pm.
Season ends with a tournament usually the last weekend in February or the first weekend in March.
Registration opens in early September and closes mid October. Any registrations after registration closes will be placed on a waitlist. Any players on a wait list are not guaranteed team placement. No player will be allowed to participate in practices/games until ALL fees are paid. Financial assistance is available for those in need on a case-by-case basis. Please contact our Treasurer for more information.
Teams will be formed based on 7th & 8th grade in-house evaluations to determine the basic skill level of each girl. Evaluations will take place during the last day of the In-House Clinics held in November.
During registration each player is allowed one play-with request. A play-with request must be mutual between two players. There is no guarantee of placement on the same team.
For the EPGBA to run a successful basketball program, we need volunteers for head coaches and assistants. If you have a basic knowledge and love of the game, and enjoy working with kids, you are just who we are looking for. Coaching manuals and general practice schedules, outlining the basic skills relevant for your players will be provided for you to work from. EPGBA's coaching director, Denny Tape, is also available to provide additional resources to coaches on effective practice planning, and how to keep it fun. Coaching clinics will also be scheduled prior to your first practice to equip coaches with the resources to help ensure a successful season.
We are also looking for volunteers to serve as grade level commissioners to help coordinate the league.
Each player will receive a basketball jersey. Players should bring their own basketball to practices/games.
